The 4th of July brings fun celebrations for families across the country. Families and friends get together to barbecue, watch fireworks, and go to weekend celebrations in their hometown. This year in addition to these festivities, celebrate by making special memories together at a painting party. You can have your own private party to paint “Fireworks Flag,” “Flower Fireworks,” or any other painting from The Paint Cellar’s collection.
Need some quick food ideas? How about some 4th of July yogurt pops? Just fill some popsicle molds in layers, using strawberry, vanilla, and blueberry yogurt. Put them in the freezer for at least 4 hours before serving. You can mix some blueberries or strawberries into the yogurt before filling the molds to make them even yummier! For more fresh berry fun; use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out pieces of watermelon. Put one watermelon star onto a wooden kabob stick, then add blueberries, strawberries, and/or raspberries onto the stick. Use another watermelon star as the final piece on the end of the stick—they are pretty and taste great!
For a non-berry treat, melt some chocolate bark in a microwaveable dish. Stir it every once in a while so you will know when it is finished (and never melt it at full power.) Roll a large rod-shaped pretzel in the chocolate, and then roll the pretzel in 4th of July colored sprinkles. Let the pretzels set on wax or parchment paper in your freezer until the chocolate hardens. Then you can move them to your refrigerator until you are ready to serve them. As a refreshing drink you can mix: sprite or 7-Up, lemonade (regular or carbonated,) and your choice of berries. Blueberries, strawberries, and/or raspberries work well. If you want to make this an adult drink, use white wine instead of pop.
Now that you have the refreshments planned, how about decorations? For your table you can find cute wrapping paper to use as a table cover. It is less expensive than buying a fabric-4th of July patterned table cloth. Some patterns you might find include blue and white stripes, red and white stripes, or a solid colored background with stars. Have a little more time to work on your table cloth? Buy some blue and red streamers. Create a criss-cross pattern on your table by interweaving the different colored streamers. You can attach the streamers to a white plastic tablecloth before putting it on your table, or just lay out the streamers on your table using scotch tape to hold it down.
